Hello didong, If you could design the world from scratch, what would it look like? This is the task Jeh, the protagonist of Sam Hill's fantasy novel, is faced with. Unfortunately for those working with him and the people living in these fabricated universes, Jeh is less of a creative genius and more a maniac with delusions of grandeur. Read on to find out more about the chaos that ensues with Jeh in charge, and the other books I'm recommending this week. 🌎 The Little Lives of the Pocketverse by Sam Hill is a hilarious, dark fantasy novel following an unhinged design team tasked with creating new universes. When the project goes awry, the corporate board sends in their representative Lucy, who must go head to head with the team's leader, the megalomaniac and egotistical Jeh. Fans of Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Walter Moers's Captain Bluebear will enjoy this hugely creative romp with its dark humor and unpredictable mayhem. 🏠 In her memoir Places We Left Behind, Jennifer Lang, a Jewish-American woman, considers the complex manifestations of religion, family, and belonging in her life and her marriage to Philippe, her French-born husband who she met in Israel. Although both are Jewish, there were stark differences between their lives when they met — she was a secular tourist, he an observant immigrant — and her memoir delves into the challenges they faced over the next two decades as they endeavored to find a place to call home. 🦅 The Kimoni Legacy: Initiation by Omari Richards is an epic fantasy novel set in a harsh world full of magic and political intrigue, which draws inspiration from the sub-Saharan landscape and ancient traditions. At the heart of the story are three royal siblings with layered personalities and destinies that will set them on dangerous paths. An epic fantasy in every sense, this first installment of The Kimoni Legacy series will captivate readers with its rich worldbuilding, high tension, and complex conflict fueled by political and magical threats. Finally, don't miss Dyson Russell's introspective poetry collection Marching with a Broken Shadow, which explores the human experience — reviewer Mitul Patel calls it a "deeply rewarding literary experience." And for any younger readers in your life, Jennifer Rineman's children's book Why is Hugh Blue? does a wonderful job of teaching kids to embrace their differences through the story of Hugh, the blue hippo.
