Really Good Emails

This isn't from the Smithsonian. But it could be.

Back in 2016, when the world was a much simpler place, we painstakingly spent way too much time analyzing all the call-to-action buttons in every email on RGE. We were trying to determine what the perfect CTA button looked like or, better yet, what one should just avoid using in their campaigns.

While we are way too busy to run the analysis again,
our findings pointed out that good CTAs have many things in common. For example, they are larger than 40 pixels high and use active verbs. We also found that way too many people were probably just defaulting to their ESP settings and being lazy.

Since then, it has become even more clear to us that CTA buttons are an indispensable asset in our marketing toolbox – and here are three reasons why:

1. A well-designed CTA button provides clarity and purpose to the user, leaving no room for ambiguity. It explicitly communicates the next step with wording and a visual cue.

2. The CTA button serves as the catalyst that transforms mere readers into active participants or customers. By strategically placing the CTA in the right context, it can significantly click-through-rates that lead to conversions and email goals.

3. The CTA button taps into the psychological triggers that encourage immediate action. Urgency compels users to seize the opportunity before it slips away.

So before you go and get fancy with your call-to-actions, we've put together this collection of some of our favorites.

       These big buttons cannot lie.

That's it for today. How'd we do? Reply and let us know.

And while you are at it, tell us what your back-to-school tradition was. Was it setting your clothes out the night before? How about getting a special breakfast? Bringing pictures for your locker? Or maybe it was burning sage and casting out demons that may get in your way? Fun times!

As for the last email, the video game you've loved the most over the years has been Mario Kart. GoldenEye was a close second. I'm really happy no one said Myst.
