Hot new design trend alert: Late '80s nostalgia.
Like a set from Saved By The Bell, you may have started to see some bright colors, geometric shapes, and squiggly lines hitting your inbox lately. Maybe some spandex and big hair too.
But as '80s lore goes, a group of young designers and architects started this new look to break the "modernism" styling that was everywhere around them. They wanted something that stood out so they focused on clashing colors, asymmetrical shapes, and repeating patterns. Vaporwave took the look a step further in 2010 by adding retro computer graphics and early internet culture.
So why repeat the trend now? Here are a few ideas: Nostalgia marketing creates a sense of familiarity and positive emotions, differentiation of designs stand out from the rest of the inbox, and technological advancements in design software make elements easier to produce (like removing the background or repeating a shape).
Here are a bunch that we've collected recently to inspire your next campaign. | |
