Hello didong, Most weeks, I find a common thread that unites our books of the week. They may share a theme or a genre or touch on similar aspects of the human condition. There is no theme this week. However, I really enjoy how all three titles can be combined to create a new story. So please enjoy… The Heroes' Descent: Rika Saves a Cat Down the Well. ⚔️ LM Santana's The Heroes' Descent follows Albert, Eleonora, and Luca: heirs to three kingdoms facing betrayal as they strive to restore justice to an imbalanced and prejudiced world. This book, a dark fantasy YA readers will love, delighted reviewer Katherine Graham with its world-building and complex storytelling. "Despite the darkness in the plot, there are also plenty of noblebright undertones, with hope for a better world—and a better life—being the underpinnings of the main story." 🐈 Rika Saves a Cat deals with a different type of hero, though one who's just as noble. Rika and Jari are young girls living on a forest planet at the galaxy's edge who discover a distressed unicorn kitten! Written by Liana and Lamar Golden with illustrations by Veronica Guarino, this picture book will delight young readers with its lovable characters (and appeal to parents with its subtle nods to another saga from a galaxy far, far away). 😱Horror fans will know that nothing good can come of going… Down the Well. When a landslide buries an entire Kentucky town (along with its citizens), a lawyer is tasked with decoding a series of journals that have been uncovered alongside the bodies of the townsfolk. The more he learns about these journals' supposed writer, the deeper he gets embroiled in the horror of the "Carrington Tragedy." Praised by reviewer Kelsey Cashman in a 5-star review, this novel by Joseph Blackhurst is easy to "recommend to all thriller and mystery lovers." For more books, check out Booze, Babe, and the Little Black Dress, a fascinating look at how the roots of consumerism in 1920s America, and The Christmas Camel, a five-star holiday picture book about a dromedary who lends ol' Saint Nick a helping hoof.
